This happened to me today on Amazon when I logged in to pick up a couple things. A few very light weight small items. No hurry, no rush, just “oh yeah I could use that sure”.
So being the reasonable calm professional person I am I immediately screen captured it and posted it on facebook with a note that said, Dear Amazon, HAVE YOU LOST YOUR EVER LOVING MIND? love, Sandi
Then realizing it was obviously a mistake because Amazon loves me almost as much as I love Brendan Fraiser I decided to head on over to Amazon and have a chat so they could check it out.
This is the exact unaltered series of screen captures of that chat.
Oh I so love your sense of humor.
I had a similar experience with Amazon – $34 in merchandise with $37 shipping. When I questioned the seller directly, I was told that Amazon’s shipping policy is by weight, so for really small items shipping was pretty much out-of-pocket for the 3rd-party seller unless they charged a flat fee per item, and there was no provision for purchasing multiple items from the same seller.
I did not purchase at that time, and I now watch VERY CLOSELY to see if multiple items are from different sellers.
Lesson learned.
And getting drunk would help, too.
Huh! That’s a very funny exchange. Apart from the humor though, there’s some crooked sellers out there – they totally make their money off of shipping and “handling”. They’re counting on you not noticing. Good thing this one was so outrageous and you noticed it.
When you buy your horse can I ride on it please?
@OFT dude I love you too man…. @Crooked Stamper – same seller, and I am Prime so it was seriously stupid…… @JC- the Animated Woman, the horse is also drunk, but the oopmalumpas have mad dance skillz
I had a similar experience…except I was trying to find a new CPU fan for my computer…cheapest replacement I could find online was $30…until I pulled up an Amazon listing – $6.85 WOOT! And then I saw the shipping cost, which I rarely have to pay because I have that fancy Amazon Prime for college Students thingy, which is totally free (instead of the normal people’s $79 a year nonsense…here, sure pay $80 up from and over the next year items from certain merchants ships for free.
ANYWHO…My $6.85 CPU fan was NOT from one of those fancy merchants…and the shipping charges, for this 1.5 ounce laptop fan was a whole $28.09.
I’d say I’m hoping the box is platinum lined and that the packing material was made of gold…but an awesome Twitter dude said he had some laying around & if I’d give him my addy he’d send it to me, no charge.
♥ I love Twitter.
HIGH-Lariously funny Peachy story!! I love that you were telling Salami (what? now I want a sammich!) that you were just going to get drunk. I’m a little pissed that he (or she???) wasn’t the least bit concerned about the potential addiction problem of one of Amazon’s finest customers. He (or she) should have at least told you not to drive or something “caring” like that. Dillholes. GREAT story, though!
OMG, what the shit?! And I love how Mr Salami meat face dude was like “Sorry for that. You’re screwed”.
I did have a similar experience when ordering books from multiple sellers. However, since 5 of the books were like 20 cents total and I had to pay like $20 to get them (and retail was still WAY more than $20) I went ahead and did it.
Did you break down and drink the banana flavored rum I left there? Sounds like you may have gotten to that point…
the rum got “lost” months ago, bring replacement alcohol STAT
I am glad I didn’t experience the same thing yet. But the price they are charging just for shipping is ridiculous. It is hard to believe the supplier is charging those rates, I still agree with the idea that there was a glitch or error in the computation. I hope they get this fixed or even explain this process further.
